3 Things Every Logo Must Have
Designing high-quality creative logos is a huge part of our company. With every branding project we accept, we always start at the same place; education. Like any industry there’s a lot to know, so we generally break the important aspects of branding down into these three points.
- A good logo is scaleable, editable and shareable. As soon as a logo is approved and leaves our door, it’s now thrust into the wild. Most companies will use their logo in hundreds of applications a year, and it’s our job to make them look good in every format. Good logos are built in a vector format, (such as .eps or .ai) and can be scaled to fit everything from a business card to a bill board. Beyond that, a vector format can be edited very easily and is easily transported via email or file share.
- A good logo has a shelf-life of 5 years. Most small businesses can afford to fully re-brand themselves every 3-5 years, with a website update every year. That being said, we try to make a logo as modern and forward reaching as possible to be as useful as possible. Logos are just like fashion, there are trends that can become obsolete just as fast as they became popular. Those in the industry should know the trends and know what’s timeless.
- A good logo is ready to grow. No one has a crystal ball that can predict how their company will grow. Some companies chug along at a steady pace, while others explode with out warning. It’s important to be able to accommodate this growth. Often, companies will want to expand their operations by adding a new division or unit to deal strictly with one part of a business. Your logo should be able to accommodate this change easily. Add an extra few words in the right spot, and you’ve got a new division.
